Endoscopy

Looking back at UEG Week 2017

Every year, the major GI meetings continue to attract huge numbers of attendees and we were delighted again this year to participate in one of the world’s most prestigious congress— UEG Week. The large crowds and incisive research reflects the continuing growth and excitement in our field. And for our team, it allows us to meet with you to talk about what’s on your mind and explore our shared vision for the future of Endoscopy.

Delegates from around the world flock to UEG Week
Something that really stood out to me at Barcelona’s Gran Fira Congress Centre this year was that UEG Week is truly becoming an international affair. Almost 14,000 attendees traveled from 116 countries to join in discussions and demonstrations. I especially enjoyed meeting with international delegates from Japan and China to hear about the developments they’re experiencing in their regions.

EchoTip ProCore® and the clinical focus on EUS FNB
In EUS research being presented, we observed a strong, upward trend in the use of EUS FNB over FNA. A number of new studies are looking at the tissue yield and accuracy of the procedure. Visitors to our booth were interested to learn more about the development of our EchoTip ProCore 20 gauge needle, which allows physicians to obtain histological samples from difficult anatomical locations¹ and is one of the ultrasound clinical solutions keeping us at the forefront of EUS developments.

Thinking differently about wire guides
One of the highlights during UEG Week is the unveiling of the latest technology in Endoscopy, and this year the attention was on wire guides: simple, reliable access during ERCP. Technological and innovative design changes to a wire guide can potentially improve patient outcomes and reduce complications. That was our goal with the Acrobat® 2 Calibrated Tip Wire Guide, which was launched during UEG Week. The Acrobat 2 is a prime example of our ongoing quest to creatively use technology to not only create new devices, but also to fine-tune the foundational tools that are integral to successful patient outcomes.

Now, let’s hear from you!
Meetings like UEG Week are vital to the advancement and growth of endoscopy. Thank you to those who came to visit with us during the show. And to everyone: Please let us hear your thoughts on the future of endoscopy by sharing them with us via Twitter @CookGastro.
